You Only Call Me When There's An Apocalypse by Wodwo

Dark, cinematic music

This gorgeous album has been simmering away on my office playlist for the last few weeks and each time I've dipped in I've been delighted. The man behind the name Wodwo is author Ray Robinson, whose skills of creativity clearly extend beyond the realms of the written word. In turning his attention to music production he works to his strengths and packs weight into the album title; You Only Call Me When There's An Apocalypse floods the floor with imaginative and provocative ideas. And coupled with the distinctly melancholy, Neo-Classical compositions, the scene is neatly set. There's a definite cinematic flair to proceedings, with skeletal strings, drawn-out synths and a hushed vibe. Really beautiful stuff.
