Libertas by Luca Durán
From turmoil comes light
Perfectly reflecting the state of hybrid mash-ups prevalent in electronic music in 2021, Swiss/Colombian producer Luca Durán presents Libertas, a debut album of lively contrasts. Like an amalgamation of ruminating ideas this 34 minute spotlight into the artist's psyche reveals bits of weird sound design (like Only Thing (Pt. 2)), subtle spoken-word vignettes (check the sultry Moondust) and upbeat oddities like the title track, with it's breakbeats and IDM-leaning melody.
Considering Durán's focus has shifted considerably from his early House-flavoured EPs, and the primary inspiration behind his album has been a response to the political turmoil in his native Colombia, it's an intriguing and enjoyable listen.
