The Cracks #1
An irregular new series that aims to catch the best music releases that we've not had time to properly celebrate on The Letter, in case they fall through the cracks for good
Lone - Always Inside Your Head
Luscious Pop majesty, arguably Matt Cutler's best work to date.
The Idealist - Cosmic Music For Higher And Lower Awareness
Impossible to pin down, Deep Acid, Tribal Trance and Dub electronics. Maybe it's the artwork but every listen feels like forbidden fruit.
Zenial - Lancelot's Delusions
Four long form drone pieces, textured and peppered with field recordings. Perfect background music.
L.F.T. - Salz
Flashes of EBM, dark synths and cold wave combine in a punky, retro-leaning racket.
Penelope Trappes - Mother's Blood Edition
Rumbling Ambient, ghostly heralds, land masses slowly shifting... this is music to be listened to outside, in remote territory. Nice concept too (stripping the vocals from her last album).
Om Unit - Retrieval
Much more than a hard-drive clearing exercise, this compilation of previously unreleased, vinyl-only or rare tracks, is packed with quality.
Burial - ANTIDAWN EP
One of Will Bevin's slower-growers, sporting many of his established trademarks, this album pays back with repeat listens. Sad and melancholic to the core.
Yoann Pisterman - Remix EP
Four subtle reworkings from the French musician's 2021 Water Groove album, that embellish and enhance with good judgedment. My fav is the Lunar Orbit Rendezvous remix.
