A compilation of ten tracks to reflect my year in Techno music.
Here's a new artist called Saefro with his debut EP Artificial Balance on USM Recordings. Specialising in fine, heads-down Techno, this four-tracker delivers varied shades of four-on-the-floor rhythm. Opening gambit Afternoon on The Moon is my pick with its muffled chug and encrypted voices but the sultry My Friend Is Not Comming Back keeps your head nodding satisfactorily.
Clocking in at nearly twelve minutes, Metazone, from a shady Ukrainian producer going by the name shjva is, simply put, a monster Techno track. Kicking off with low-slung Dub Techno it soon morphs into a driving, organic affair with blissed-out 303 bass at its core.
Metazone is taken from a four-track EP of the same name which includes a remix by Eversines. Out now via Viscera Transmissions.
New tune called BANGS out today from the big man. And it does what it says on the tin.
Debut EP from the Glaswegian producer on Rekids sub-label RSPX (Rekids Special Projects) with all three tracks destined for the peak time floor, but the title track stands out (i.e. not just a DJ tool) with its snazzy vocal snippet, high-hats and 135BM boompty beat.
New Fading EP from Timothy Clerkin is a solid show. Sigma transmits distinct Kris Wadsworth vibes in its "I don't give a fuck" refrain, especially atop the no messing hardware-produced Techno and Acid that underpins proceedings, however it's the EP title track Fading that rises up, proving eminently hummable thanks in part to Heather Sheret's timeless vocal parts, combining strident rhythms and melody with perfect balance.
Delicious deeep pumping bass and then the most tasteful Acid on this excellent track from the new DC Salas EP Pixelated Dream Theory – in the same vein as Moderna's Prince cover DIE4U
Propulsive Acid-fuelled banger from English producer Man Loves Machine.
In The Mud is my highlight from Ombrar's debut EP, Walking on Thin Ice, out now on Skryptöm. With its Techno and Breaks rhythms and a light tension build, it delivers an emotional ride. The other five tracks undulate over turbulent and haunting Ambient to thumping Techno.
Relentless pumping Techno
USM Recordings stalwarts AgainstMe and Mic Meimaroglou have teamed up for the label's first vinyl release: Planet 381. With a pair of tracks each they deliver a fitting inauguration with four prime time belters to set the floor alight. Top work all round.
Techno with a schizophrenic energy
A couple of decent Techno DJ tools from Nathan Bearman, aka Man Loves Machine. Name your price too.
The Techno supergroup, comprising Peter Sutton (Female), David Sumner (Function), Juan Mendez (Silent Servant) and Karl O’Connor (Regis) are re-releasing their 2010 album, Feed Forward, on vinyl on 28th July via The Point Of Departure Recording Company. Available on digital for the first time too, it comes with a new track called Surrender To The Unknown, which sounds surprisingly fresh considering it was made around the time of the original recording sessions.
The Battle Over Techno’s Origins - "a shiny museum dedicated to the music genre has opened in Frankfurt, Germany, and many techno pioneers feel that Black and queer artists in Detroit have been overlooked"

Noted, 25 Jan 2023, 17:36Still catching up with overlooked gems from December and happened upon the upbeat EP Unfold Voices from Watergate resident JAMIIE. It's her debut, containing two originals and three tight remixes. Opening track Voices could inflict some damage.
Al Wootton on the decks for the next installment of Mixtape Club, with a slow-burning Techno set entitled Asklepion Dance
Noted, 16 Dec 2022, 14:09This new album Shifting Signals from Terence Fixmer is shaping up to be a beauty. The latest track No Latitude For Errors is all poise and tasteful bleepy beats.
Shifting Signals is out on 2nd December on Mute.
New track Diana's Lab, from the Dutch veteran Ferenc E. van der Sluijs, aka I-F, taken from forthcoming EP The Fetish Death
