Flikka Flokka by Keope
Cosmopolitan jams
Opening with a couple of vocal tracks cleverly sets the scene for an electronic Pop album but this third outing from Toni Bruna and Marcus Rossknecht as Keope is primarily a set of joyful jams. The sound of an Afro-tinged guitar on El Sabata hints at the bohemian edge they bring to their productions. And with flavours of Folk, Balearic and Psychedelia in the mix, there's a confident cosmopolitan vibe that feels very 2023. Halfway through, the chant on Perdidos En El Valle helpfully disrupts the flow, avoiding heads-down jamming monotony. And further on the album highlight Piere adds a mournful spike, and a welcome change of pace, through its spoken word monologue. This may have been a good point to end the album, as nice as these jams are, there's about three too many; forty minutes would have been a more accessible playing time. Closing track From A Window is essential though, using their favoured vocodorised treatment, it's the perfect uplifting end.
