Lost Childhood, Vol. 1 & 2 by Drew Schlesinger
Nostalgia and the essence of childhood
Drew Schlesinger is perhaps best known for his work creating internal presets for over two hundred devices from thirty manufacturers, including Roland, Korg, EMU, Kurzweil, Alesis, Sony, Yamaha, Eventide, Lexicon and Sound Toys, so if you make electronic music, it's possible that you have used one of his sound effects in your own work. It's what he used to make these seminal albums in the early 90s.
Recorded between 1992–93, when Schlesinger was a young father of two boys, Lost Childhood Vol.1 & Vol.2 comprise eight tracks of blissful Ambient music, channelling themes of memory and childhood. It reminds me most of the dreamy, sun-drenched sound of Precipitation. Balancing spooky sections like Dusk and Sea on Vol.1 with moments of sublime beauty like both opening tracks, Mother and Friend, the music gently provokes and triggers feelings of nostalgia. Very highly recommended.
