Further Translations by Kenneth James Gibson
Remix collection featuring Christopher Willits, Scanner, Brian McBride and more
From making scuzzy experimental Pop in the 90s to composing music for TV and film today, the work of Canadian artist Kenneth James Gibson has undeniably evolved (an evolution not dissimilar to Clint Mansell of Pop Will Itself or Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails).
On this collection of ten remixes, each one transforming Gibson's original soul-seeking and sorrowful Ambient music with their creator's distinctive touch, we are presented with a newly interpreted view of his work. Eight artists were commissioned (Brian McBride, Konstantin Gabbro, Awakened Souls, Chuck Johnson, Christopher Willits, Less Bells, Scanner and Jack Dangers) while Gibson reworked two tracks himself. The result is a darkly cinematic journey, with a carefully selected track sequence that flows like an album. Far From Home, the contribution from the recently deceased McBride (of Stars of the Lid) strikes an unexpected emotional edge.
