Orgasma by Domenico Crisci
Frenzied and fun, punishing and pleasurable, a Techno album of opposing emotions
If you've not heard Domenico Crisci's work yet, then prepare yourself for a barrage of bloody bruising beats. Not the same conceptual mindfuckery of SHXCXCHCXSH's OUFOUFOF but it shares a level of accessibility that requires considerable dedication to the altar of Techno. The key difference is that Crisi's take on Techno is actually very listenable, even if it is extreme. Orgasma is his second long player and doesn't stray far from the font; we get ten tracks etched with every scriptured Techno trait (mini-drops, varied percussion, very subtle melodic riffs). Dark in style and substance, its shadowy message rarely reaching the light.
Like a swarm of bees on the rampage, a sense of hysteria builds on the opening (title) track for a whole two minutes.. and then BAMM! a 147 BPM onslaught takes grip for the remaining 49. It's incessant. It's like a feeding frenzy of unrelenting rhythm, and quite fitting for the subject matter of autoerotic asphyxiation (read the liner notes) - a sense of blind desire, a manic mental state and a dextrous tension-build with the ultimate climax. At once frenzied and fun, punishing and pleasurable. As a Techno album of contrasting emotions, once you're strapped-in, you'll either enjoy it or endure it.
