Code Walk - Separate

Review

Separate by Code Walk

First part of this Techno triptych promises something different

This isn't conventional Techno fare, as one should expect from anything released on Peder Mannerfelt Produktion. On Separate, the first part of their planned trio of EPs, Danish duo Code Walk present five tracks with wide-ranging rhythms, bustling with spooky synths and deadpan samples. This variety alone easily sustains interest, but with repeat listens its initially cold veneer slowly reveals an alluring warmth, particularly on key track Clock with its naggingly insistent 152 BPM bang that pummels first and massages later. On hearing a preview of second installment Guide I can report that it's more of the same enticing bounty.

Elevating the release further, the accompanying art work by Eigil Bakdal Jørgensen, itself an actual triptych called “Phases Triptych”, is the cherry garnish.
