Imerro by C. Diab
Bowed guitar meets sax
First new music from the Canadian artist Caton Diab since 2021’s In Love & Fracture. His 2020 album White Whale was the first of his I’d heard and remains a memorable landmark for its distinct sound of riffed bowed guitar crossed with mournful classical strokes. On Imerro, his fifth album, the bowed guitar is still a key element, wringing emotion through a musically lyrical narrative, but Diab has adopted an element of Jazz, both in the free-flowing and improvisational style of creation (recorded over six days in the summer of 2021 with just himself and an engineer) and the inclusion of saxophone on tracks like Lunar Barge, Erratum and Surge Savard.
