In Iron Houses by bvdub
A dense and overwhelming odyssey
Brock Van Wey is extremely prolific; four albums as bvdub this year already but that's nothing compared to last year's haul of nine! I'm most familiar with his dense and heavily layered Ambient productions but he can expertly turn his hand to some very tasteful Deep Techno too.
Presented across four intense 20 minute tracks In Iron Houses rides Spector's Wall of Sound aesthetic with some Shoegaze distortion for added tension. The result is dreamy dub vocals clashing with cacophonous synths and samples, where light and rhythm occasionally emerge but everything remains saturated in sweet and suffocating melody. It's full-on.
(On a side note, the beautiful album artwork perfectly reflects the care and attention Van Wey puts into his visuals - just check out his Bandcamp page - now that's how to design a Bandcamp page!)
