Variations sur Absolune by AJA
Recurring beauty
Variations sur Absolune is seven interpretations of the track Absolune from Aja's recent album Ajasphère Vol.II on which I previously noted:
French artist Clémence Quélennec operates as Aja and this new album is the second in her ongoing Ajasphère series. With a combination of synthesisers and acoustic instruments (voice, piano, organetto, clarinet, trumpet, ocarina (aka a potato flute)) we're discreetly invited into Quélennec's private world. Vast yet immersive.
Inspired by an impromptu rendition from guitarist Piezanowski during a session, a full series quickly evolved, with each interpretation showcasing a different instrument. Alongside Aja herself on harp, the wistful melody is treated by Varieras on pipe organ, Swann on trumpet, Sébastien Forrester on metallophone, Ruta on double bass and Mami Konishi on piano. Really beautiful.
