Skaeliptom by Varg
Reissue of the Swedish wolf's 2013 debut on vinyl
Originally released on Periferin, Jonas Rönnberg's debut as Varg is a strong statement of intent, with seven tracks of deep Ambient Techno, shot through with streaks of twisted Acid. I've always considered it an elder sibling to Anthony Linell's stellar A Sense of Order (released on Northern Electronics in 2018) a view now bolstered by the fact that Northern Electronics are behind this re-release. I prefer Linell's album though largely because Rönnberg's closing track, Strigoi (Grav's I Sävenäs Edit), unexpectedly descends into dirty, glitchy rhythms, negatively altering the mood. Misantropen, his follow-up later that year, delivered a more coherent deep Techno vibe.
Notable contemporaries at the time include Tin Man, Consequence, Recondite, Segue, Voices From The Lake, Barker & Baumecker and Sendai.
