V.I.T.R.I.O.L. by Dark Sky Burial
The Grindcore stalwart with a solid electronic album borne from the pandemic and personal reflection
Fans of Napalm Death will be familiar with longest-serving member Shane Embury's Grindcore aesthetic (or perhaps his excursions into Hardcore Punk with Venomous Concept or Progressive Death Metal with Liquid Graveyard) but he has a new, tender, side known as Dark Sky Burial. If Napalm Death is being buried alive then Dark Sky Burial is digging yourself out to the sound of angsty melody. With a blend of accessible electronic styles the ten tracks on V.I.T.R.I.O.L. (not an official album but a compilation of early tracks) marry softly pummelling riffs with rousing chord sequences and crunchy rhythms. The music is propulsive and dark, with shades of Doom (Vincit Qui Se Vincit), Jazz (Decay Is The Matrix Of Fertility) and IDM (Excarnation and The Vertical Labyrinth).
