Shackleton & Six Organs of Admittance - Jinxed by Being

Review

Jinxed by Being by Shackleton & Six Organs of Admittance

Airless folk horror

With Shackleton's dreaded bass and Six Organs' druggy folk songs we have the core ingredients for a memorable mind expanding trip. Shackleton transforms the discordant vocals and oblivious guitars of Ben Chasny to serve up seven cold-sweaty mantras that don't quite hypnotise but leave you edgy and claustrophobic. Call the result psychedelic if you wish but the bass pressure on Jinxed by Being is so heavy and unrelenting at times, it's like a bad luck trip. With guitar loops and tablas corrupted by the thick, vibrant bass and the droning incantations dubbed out like tinnitus of the mind, it will leave all but fans ill at ease.
