Les Délivrés by Maxime Dangles
Soundtrack for a documentary about the poor working conditions facing the two-wheeled fast food delivery force of today
In recent years French DJ and producer Maxime Dangles has focused his attention on making more considered, "intelligent" dance music, rather than the club tracks and remixes on which he has established his name. New album Les Délivrés is still a pretty upbeat selection though, and as a sequence of tracks it ticks along nicely, suiting the album format. Although I've yet to see the documentary (by Thomas Grandremy) which it soundtracks, I can imagine the pummelling Révolte or the kinetic energy and emotive build that defines Matin Rose, perfectly acommpanying frantic scenes of desperate food couriers biking crazy paths through bustling city streets, risking life and limb for diabolically low wages, in a bid to get their food delivered while it's still hot.
Across the forty minutes play-time Dangles exhibits a solid hand at production and a good ear for composition, from tempered Ambient to high velocity Electronica.
While all profits of the album will be donated to French charity Utopia 56, his ultimate goal is to tour the music as a live AV show.
