Fav mixes and compilations of 2021

Select the tracks, sequence them properly and mix

No Photos On The Dancefloor - this review of Berlin Techno from 1992 to the present, compiled by Heiko Hoffmann, is all killer.

Salutations - first compilation of new music from RVNG takes the listener on a lo-fi Pop passage, with delightful acoustic and electronica flavours.

Eomac & MC Yallah - Mixmag: In Session - a fun selection of anthems stoutly mixed by the Irish producer with the Ugandan vocalist adding her je ne sais quoi

JD Twitch recently completed his mixtape series and, of the ten 90 minute cassette compilations in total, I managed to pick up the few that were available digitally. Three in particular I loved were CAVERNS OF DUB, THE WORD IS LOVE and CRATE OF JAMAICA. One of the best selectors in the business obvs.

Caverns of Dub

fabric presents Overmono - one of the strongest mixes for the heralded clubbing institution in years.

Connecting The Dots - Kompakt's new series of mixes where they asked friends and label artists to select tracks from the label's back catalogue.

Connecting the Dots

My favs were from Michael Mayer and Tobias Thomas (with others by Alex Paterson, Jonathan Kaspar and Robag Wruhme).

Singles Series Vol. 2 - intricate, spare and contemplative Ambient music from the LA label Mystery Circles. Really beautiful.

Chippy Nonstop - RA.808 - bangingly hard and relentlessly fun, great selections, mixed well.

Tresor 30 - another ambitious compilation that, like No Photos on the Dancefloor, acknowledges the history of Techno, this time from the standpoint of German institution Tresor, as they look back 30 years in business.

Version Excursion - Selected By Don Letts - like JD Twitch, Don Letts is another esteemed selector, so it follows that this new compilation of dubby covers versions is a simple delight, especially if you're a fan of Dub and Pop.

Don Letts - Version Excursion

It Was Always There Vol 1, Vol 2 and Vol 3 - the result of Martyn's pandemic mentoring programme was a rousing success, showcasing a fresh batch of talent in a range of electronic musical styles and tastes. A lot to like.

@0 - Coldcut & Mixmaster Morris - there's a recurrent theme here if you hadn't noticed: Coldcut and Mixmaster Morris are another pair of fine selectors and together a finely-honed team, oozing good taste and demonstrating the fine art of sequencing and mixing beautiful music. This 76 minute Ambient and Downtempo selection, covering 29 tracks, drifts into Fourth Word territory, celebrating new and old artists alike.

Bleep Mix #215 - MMM (Errorsmith & Fiedel) - this hour long mix brings together music and artists who provided inspiration to Errorsmith and Fiedel during the making of their new album On The Edge. A fine companion piece, both revealing and deeply enjoyable.
