Rebuild Mix 1.2.3. by Shinichi Atobe
New EP from reclusive Japanese producer reworks another EP
Remember Ship-Scope, the debut EP from Japanese producer Shinichi Atobe when it was originally released in 2001 on Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction? Nah, me neither. I even overlooked the RA review (when it was given a re-release last year thanks to Demdike Stare and his DDS label). It then took him another 13 years before returning with his debut album, Butterfly Effect (also via DDS). On a bit of a roll now, Atobe is back once again with his second EP, Rebuild Mix 1.2.3. on Daniël Jacques’ fledgling Jadac Recordings imprint.
The trio of tracks are Atobe’s interpretations of Jacques’ Discovery Change (Part 4) EP (released earlier this year). Initially asked for a remix Jacques was presented with three new works instead, each matching the warmth of the original source. With a distinctive sound, not unlike Ninja Tune from 15 years ago (think DJ Food or Amon Tobin), these rebuilds provoke a nostalgic feel. The delicate melodies, interwoven with great samples, form a satisfying, organic sound, signaling a shift from the Ambient Dub of his previous work.
All songs will be released on vinyl only, limited to 500 copies (hand-numbered sleeves and pressed on transparent vinyl), via Bandcamp, so get in there quick!
