Head Shoppe by Head Shoppe
Psychedelic mind funks for acoustic guitar
Inspired by folk horror themes and burdened by psychedelic dreams, the self-titled debut from Head Shoppe, aka poncho-wearing Eric von Harding, aka Cashew, can be a complex but captivating ride (proof: the video for Seance) helped considerably by fine tune craft and soaring production levels.
Armed with an acoustic guitar, Harding cuts Classical and Flamenco shapes from contemporary cloth, with each of the six instrumentals telling an intriguing tale. Throw in Moog, Rhodes and Arp sounds, along with flutes and organs, and the form of Post-Progressive Rock quickly emerges. The result is a weirdly timeless-sounding album that could soundtrack Quentin Tarantino's next western.
