David Edren - Relativiteit Van de Omgeving

Review

Relativiteit Van de Omgeving by David Edren

Enchanting music with a warm, mystical glow

Experimental artist David Edren has been making an engaging brand of organic electronic music for over two decades, first as DSR Lines before going solo in 2015. Early on, the direction and style of his music was notably influenced by classic synthesisers like the ARP 2500 and Buchla 200, but recent work has come from deeper, conceptual foundations (like plants, tea and gamelan). The twelve tracks on Relativiteit Van de Omgeving (translates as Relativity Of The Environment) represent a series of terrariums, from misty meadows and moonlit gardens to cosmic vistas of asteroid showers. With that in mind, it's easy to let your mind wander, sketching sunny, tropical environments. Like some of the Ambient-leaning works of Aleksi Perala, Edren conjures an oriental vibe both chiming and charming (check Zaailing as a good example).   Really beautiful.

And there's poetry too:

Look at your surroundings!
-seize time-
Aren't these dominant (f)actors in your well-being?

Flee, free from mists.
Slow down, Reflect, ponder..

-drink water-
For roots may spring, Seeds may sprout

replenish your garden.
Skate through into

as dusk lights a new environment.

If you only listen to one track

Vertraag!
