Shell~Wave by Surgeon
Rousing, moody and complex Techno
Nothing particularly groundbreaking here on Surgeon's 10th album but he gives us nine tracks of solid and dependable Techno shaped by his vast experience. Inspired by his live sets, and pursuing the same approach to 2023's Crash Recoil in which he used minimal equipment, Surgeon surfs a wave of Techno tones from rousing (Soul Fire) to moody (Divine Shadow) to uplifting (Fall). Central track Dying, a beat-less three minutes of vocal manipulation, breaks the four-on-the-floor flow into two distinct phases. I love the cawing crows on Empty Cloud.
