Experimenting with a steel drum
Interesting project from Olof Dreijer (The Knife) and Mt. Sims: five tracks composed with a famous steel drum played in unorthodox ways (with a selection of mallets, metal screws, bouncing balls and water!). The resulting music is experimental and magical but the opening track in particular is breathtaking. Liten Karin, sung by Mt Sims, transforms what would have been a very pleasant Experimental Ambient excursion into a proper event. (The song is a reinterpretation of the medieval Swedish folk song, questioning the image of national purity associated with Sweden). One of the years best releases!
