Kim Gordon exhibition
Since Sonic Youth's split, Kim Gordon has been working on her art again
Design Office is the title of an exbibition that brings together work from Kim Gordon's art practise since 1980. I love the opening line of this review from the Gallerist which kind of sums things up:
Kim Gordon, the longtime bassist for Sonic Youth, is a brilliant musician, a captivating performer, a clever critic and, judging by her current show at White Columns, a fairly uninteresting visual artist.
I do rather like her ongoing Noise Painting series though, which involves scrawling the names of noisy bands across canvases. Included in this group are luminaries sucj as Circuit Wound, Torturing Nurse, Weak Sisters and Pussy Galore. And scrunched up in the middle of the gallery floor, a discarded Sonic Youth - quality!
