Sense / Margin by iu takahashi
Capturing an alternative perspective
If you weren't aware, the Ambient music realm is vast. I'm constantly discovering new jump-off points and connecting disparate outposts through an artist's shared process or concept. A fine recent example is my stumbling upon Hiroshi Yoshimura's delicate and brilliant 1986 album Surround (commissioned by a home building company to represent their design and living ethos) alongside listening to Sense / Margin, the sixth album from fellow Japanese sound artist iu takahashi, who cites Yoshimura (alongside Satoshi Ashikawa) as a key inspiration in her work.
Using her voice, field recordings and a range of synthesisers, Sense / Margin is an exploration of the tiny moments in life that often pass unnoticed but when captured reveal an alternative perspective and a new definition to flesh out our inner selves.
Early morning mist in the mountains, the lakeside ripples in the stillness.
On rainy days, open the window and lie in bed.
The moment when a margin is created in me.
I want to feel these senses forever.iu takahashi
