Almamy - Digital Love

Review

Digital Love by Almamy

Memorable debut single from African singer and electronic music producer

Here comes the debut single from New York based producer Almamy: a loose cover version of Daft Punk's Digital Love. Replacing the vocodered singing of the original we have a helium-powered vocal, which understandably may prove rather irritating to most on first listen but with perseverance the accompanying electronic beats and growling bass come to the fore. The B-side is a dub version, which, when played back-to-back with the A-side transforms the whole thing into a single monster workout, bringing to mind the way LCD Soundsystem's Yeah (Crass Version) goes from yeah yeah yeah to complete wig-out!

6/10 after 10 listens
