I'd mention Shawn Reynaldo's excellent newsletter essays and interviews more if they weren't behind a paywall but, in case you weren't aware, he drops the paywall for a day (a day or two after the publication date), so if you time it right, you get access. This week's newsletter is an interview with Jay Donaldson, aka Palms Trax, and it's a good read, with plenty of revealing titbits like this:

I was on a Resident Advisor panel at Dekmantel with Objekt and Dasha Rush, and she was talking about how she’d read a poem and that would feed into her music-making process. I remember that I couldn’t even get my head around that, because my music-making process would be to get a Tevo Howard track, copy the hi-hat pattern, and then copy the kick and snare. It was like I didn’t have any ideas of my own! I was trying to learn how to make hi-hat patterns by just copying everyone, and then I’d get to the end and realize that what I’d done didn’t sound anywhere near as good. So I’d hate it and start again.
