John Barnes - Slims

Following Mithraics (from November 2022) and Euroene (March 2023), Slims, the third track from the Welsh producer Sam Arnold, is out today and provides the perfect opportunity to pick up all three in this tidy release.

Previously I described his music as "landing somewhere between Dean Hurley, Crystal Castles, Scandinavian Star and Romance".

Arnold explains the inspiration behind the music:

The thing that connects the new tracks are field recordings that I recorded from Berlin a few years ago. The sounds of the early morning U-Bahn and the overgrown disused Spreepark fairground were the inspiration, and the field recordings seep in and out of all three tracks

John Barnes - Euroene

Taking his artist name from the famous English footballer, Cardiff's Sam Arnold presents his first new solo material since 2016 for Welsh-via-New-Zealand label Machine Records. Euroene is a pair of tracks that land somewhere between Dean Hurley, Crystal Castles, Scandinavian Star and Romance. The cut-up vocal on Mithraics is particularly appealing.

Out on Friday 10th March via Machine Records.

Six Tracks #29 featuring Salvatore Mercatante, Gloria de Oliveira & Dean Hurley, a Minotaur Shock remix of seagoth, Rico Casazza, Neel and Trisector.

  • Salvatore Mercatante - On The Foot

I already mentioned DECAS, the album this tracks comes from, so you may already be familiar with its spooky vibes. Think: 90s Ninja Tune cut-and-paste, IDM-style, dark electronica and you'll be in the right ballpark
  • Neel - Dongmak

Hypnotic rhythms from the Italian producer, subtle and underplayed. Taken from the new four track EP The 808 Archive which focuses on the famous synth

  • Rico Casazza - Twozerofour

The highlight from the Italian producer's new EP packs an emotional wallop. Classy as hell

  • seagoth - Amorphous (Minotaur Shock Remix)

Indie band get the remix treatment (think Four Tet) and it works... 'nuff said.

  • Trisector - Quiet balance

Lustrous Dub Techno from the Finnish label Signature Dark, courtesy of Otto Andelin aka Trisector

  • Gloria de Oliveira and Dean Hurley - Ashore of the Cosmic Sea

From the sweetest Pop album that crossed my radar this year, this track encapsulates an 80s sound with contemporary vocals perfectly free from affectation. Out via Sacred Bones Records
