The 7th Plain - I Think I Think Too Much
Sat 19 Jan 2019 | permalink I Think I Think Too Much is one of the more tender, Ambient outings from Luke Slater's recent brace of reissues as The 7th Plain. The two new albums of reissues, Chronicles II and Chronicles III, follow the excellent first compilation from 2016, and play together like a "best of", comprising back catalogue releases (from albums My Yellow Wise Rug and The 4 Cornered Room) along with many rare and unreleased gems.
Buy all Chronicles releases on A-TON, the sub-label of Berghain in-house label Ostgut Ton, which focuses on Ambient, archived and previously unreleased music, deviating from club orientated fare.

Posthuman - Once Was
Thu 20 Dec 2018 | permalink Acid done properly, that's the new Posthuman album Mutant City Acid. And while there's many strong tracks to choose from, Once Was is my pick, with its catchy vocal snippet, and polite nod to early nineties Electronica. If Boards of Canada did Acid, it would sound as blissful as this.

Ancient Methods - Walking On Cursed Soil (feat. Prurient)
Thu 11 Oct 2018 | permalink The Jericho Records is one hell of a stomping, cardiac-inducing Techno album from Michael Wollenhaupt aka Ancient Methods and the track Walking On Cursed Soil (feat. Prurient) is one of many highlights.

The Field - Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone
Thu 27 Sep 2018 | permalink Opening track from the new album Infinite Moment is a beauty. Made Of Steel, Made Of Stone transforms the elements anyone familiar with The Field's previous work will recognise, like the manipulated female vocal loop, and filters them through a kind of Ambient process. And while there's still a steady accompanying rhythm, the result is a monumental slab of dreamy, emotive escapism.
