Listen to the last ten ‘tunes of the moment’
Kim Gordon - Murdered Out
Sun 10 Nov 2019 | permalink
On her debut album No Home Record ex-Sonic Youth bass guitarist Kim Gordon introduces some raucous use of electronics which, when coupled with her familiar raucous guitar work, results in a cohesive collection, both easily listenable and uncompromisingly upfront. For a Sonic Youth fan who hasn't really kept tabs on Gordon's work since the late-90s I'm genuinely impressed.
Murdered Out may been around for a few years already but I'm glad it was included on the album: it rocks!

Ellen Allien - Free Society
Sun 22 Sep 2019 | permalink
I can't stop listening to Ellen Allien's Alientronic album, it's a such a barnstorming effort, eight tracks, all killer, no filler, and as a result, very easy to pick a different favourite with each listen. My current fav happens to Free Society, which has a funky new video of Allien dancing.
Maxime Alexander - Take My Hands
Sat 31 Aug 2019 | permalink
The US-born producer has been making music for a few years, including an album of leftfield Electro Pop called MA14 in 2015. A series of thumping tunes from 2017's Salon Rouge through to last year's Hurt Me demonstrated a knack for knocking out effective Acid Electro. Take My Hands maintains the Acid vibe but the Pop sensibility shines through strongly. Acid Pop for the win!

Shifted - The Light Touch
Mon 1 Jul 2019 | permalink
A master class in hypnotic Techno from Guy Brewer, aka Shifted, who debuts on Lucy's Stroboscopic Artefacts label with a forceful new three-track EP called The Light Touch. The title track in particular is superb.
Alice Hubble - Goddess
Sun 9 Jun 2019 | permalink
Alice Hubble is the new solo project of pop princess Alice Hubley (ex Arthur and Martha) and Goddess is her debut release. The title track is pure and simple Pop genius, all about unrequited lust and the heavy toil that sort of thing can bring. The rest of the EP is pretty decent too, with another pop gem in the shape of Lake Louise, as well as three fine remixes of Goddess. My favourite remix is the grizzly Ambient reworking by Luke Mawdsley.
Sierra - Unbroken
Tue 21 May 2019 | permalink
If Emika turned Electro, it might sound something like this. Powerful new EP called Gone from French artist Sierra mixes banging Electro synths, like Gesaffelstein, with emotive, hooky melodies. Unbroken has crossover appeal.
Palms Trax - To Paradise
Wed 1 May 2019 | permalink
Lifted from his new EP of the same name, To Paradise is Jay Donaldson, aka Palms Trax, demonstrating with great poise and precision, how to make the brightest Electro Pop, perfect for heralding in the summer.
Out now via Dekmantel.
Ewa Justka - You Are Repeating Yourself Indeed (KRTM Remix)
Thu 18 Apr 2019 | permalink
The opening chords of KRTM's remix of Ewa Justka's You Are Repeating Yourself Indeed may sound like a car alarm at full throttle and the initial effect is similarly arresting but things eventually settle down into a thoroughly pleasing peak time Techno beast. For me, best listened to extremely loudly first thing in the morning!
