His Master's Voice - The Healer

Log α Canis Majoris: space-gazing despatches from an anonymous German producer going by the name His Master's Voice as he orbits Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky (aka Canis Majoris). And while his reports reveal little undiscovered of this terrain, his travelogues prove to be thoroughly entertaining.
Trading in whoozy melody, comprised of compressed Acid bleeps and Ambient-steering Techno, Log α Canis Majoris is a strong debut album on Paul Ritch's KCZMRK label and follows an excellent EP on Delsin from 2019 called Transition and a two tracker on Schleifen called Sirius Incident from 2017. For fans of Claro Intelecto or Lusine.
One of the standout tracks (of which there are a few) The Healer is worth checking out, even if it's not an entirely accurate reflection of the album's general vibe. The thumping Acid throbs coupled with the insistent bass drum is quality stuff, so when you throw in a sample of Iggy Pop describing his experience of once taking Acid, we've got all the ingredients of a tidal wave floor assault.

Slip It In perfectly balances an EBM / Electro vibe with Taylor's rousing contribution.
Diaspora is out 28th February 2020.
Broads & Milly Hirst - Happisburgh
Mon 27 Jan 2020 | permalink
Building on a foundation of guitars and electronic experimentation English duo Broads have developed a form of contemporary music that sits rather comfortably in today's electronic musical zeitgeist. Taking their interest in loops and manipulated sounds one step further, the duo have teamed up with Norwich folk singer Milly Hirst to produce an (almost-entirely) analogue album built around pianos, drones, field recordings and wordless vocals.
While Happisburgh bears no obvious vocal embellishments, judging by Hirst's delightful singing voice (on her own material) we're in for a treat... we'll just need to wait until the album drops on 6th March to hear her contribution.
TR/ST - The Stain

Another album I missed on its release late last year was The Destroyer - 2 by TR/ST (formerly just Trust) a one-man band also known as Canadian Robert Alfons. He makes catchy, singalong Electronic music packed with emotion and good vibes, and this track, The Stain, is a fine example.
I've got all his albums and they're all well worth checking out if you're unfamiliar.
PinballSpider - Circuit Breaker
Fri 6 Dec 2019 | permalink
The astute among you may recognise the name PinballSpider from the excellent H+P: Clyde Built 5.0 Compilation earlier this year? He teamed up with fellow Scot Kamus on the track Source Material. Well, the up-and-coming producer is about to release his first solo EP and it's a strong one. The impeccably-produced, Breaks-inspired three-tracker rolls along very tidily but it's the lead track that really steals the show. It's got a lovely old-skool vibe that reminds me of DJ Food and Ninja Tune from twenty-odd years ago. That vocal sample has been cut up to perfection.
Circuit Breaker is out on 9th December on Glasgow label Avoidant.
Kim Gordon - Murdered Out
Sun 10 Nov 2019 | permalink
On her debut album No Home Record ex-Sonic Youth bass guitarist Kim Gordon introduces some raucous use of electronics which, when coupled with her familiar raucous guitar work, results in a cohesive collection, both easily listenable and uncompromisingly upfront. For a Sonic Youth fan who hasn't really kept tabs on Gordon's work since the late-90s I'm genuinely impressed.
Murdered Out may been around for a few years already but I'm glad it was included on the album: it rocks!

Ellen Allien - Free Society
Sun 22 Sep 2019 | permalink
I can't stop listening to Ellen Allien's Alientronic album, it's a such a barnstorming effort, eight tracks, all killer, no filler, and as a result, very easy to pick a different favourite with each listen. My current fav happens to Free Society, which has a funky new video of Allien dancing.
