ascendant vierge - Influenceur
Fri 10 Jul 2020 | permalink
ascendant vierge are a French duo specialising in Hard Pop, comprising singer Mathilde Fernandez and Casual Gabberz producer Paul Seul. Having self-released Influenceur last summer, it's getting an official release on Berlin label Live From Earth Klub. If you're like me and secretly enjoy some of the more "dance-orientated" entries of Eurovision each year, then this will be right up your street.
A debut EP proper called Vierge is scheduled for a September release on the same label.
Legowelt - Pancakes With Mist
Mon 6 Jul 2020 | permalink
Danny Wolfers can sing! Think: reverb-soaked, off-kilter, Drexciyan warbling and you're in the right ballpark. The title track from his new album Pancakes With Mist is simply excellent. We love you Danny!
oqbqbo & Scandinavian Star - Coercion
Sun 14 Jun 2020 | permalink
This pair of collaborative tracks came out a while back but I keep returning to them whenever I need a mood enhancement, and they never fail. On Posh Isolation, it's dedicated teamwork from oqbqbo & Scandinavian Star. My particular fav is Coercion which builds to a giddy Trance high around the halfway mark... fantastic!
Cindy - Never Let Me Go (Part II)
Tue 26 May 2020 | permalink
Cindy is the new project of Kai from Palmbomen II, where he transports listeners back to the 80s via a direct line to the present day. A taster of the forthcoming album called I'm Cindy is Never Let Me Go (Part II) which mixes an Italo Disco vibe, courtesy of cute vocals from Blue LoLãn, with splashes of Acid and other contemporary electronic music.
Adiel - If Not Now When?
Mon 18 May 2020 | permalink
Italian DJ and producer Adiel releases an eighth EP (the first to step away from her own label Danza Tribale) on Lucy's Stroboscopic Artefacts on the 5th June, and it's a solid effort.
While the cut-up vocal sample on ESRR makes for an excellent hook, the standout moment is opening track If Not Now When?, with its driving, urgent rhythm aimed at the peak time throng and its title, which riffs on Emma Watson's 2014 speech on gender equality.
Minimal Violence - Ravebomb
Wed 6 May 2020 | permalink
DESTROY ---> [physical] REALITY [psychic] <--- TRUST is the memorably-titled first of three new EPs from Vancouver duo Minimal Violence to be released on Tresor Records over the next year. Retaining their raucous affection for the more extreme flavours of dancefloor destruction, lead track Ravebomb metaphorically devastates. Essential track!
OTHR - Damage Your Pain
Fri 1 May 2020 | permalink
Tbilisi club KHIDI has launched a new self-titled label featuring residents Ancient Methods, Phase Fatale, OTHR and Roman, and it's a high quality release with all four tracks hitting the EBM slash Techno sweet spot. My personal fav is from Georgian DJ and producer Ladouka Ninua, aka OTHR, and his contribution Damage Your Pain, which perfectly balances an forecful EBM vibe with death metal vocals.
An added bonus is the excellent artwork from Acid Hazel.
Vril - Scalar
Wed 22 Apr 2020 | permalink
Fourth release on Marcel Dettmann's Bad Manners label sees German Technomonger Vril produce his best work to date. Opening track on Bad Manners 4 (vinyl + digital) is called Scalar and pummels with Trance-inducing chords.
Alva Noto - A Forest
Fri 10 Apr 2020 | permalink
Carsten Nicolai, aka Alva Noto, has released an Ambient version of The Cure's classic Goth Rock track A Forest to mark 40 years since its release. The singing and beats have been stripped out, leaving a wash of cleansing ambience, essentially a completely new track compared to the original.
