Wen - Signals

Review

Signals by Wen

Debut album of instrumental grime is a journey to remember

Signals is the well-polished debut album from Wen, aka Owen Darby. A close cousin to Burial's Untrue, it's a mix of instrumental grime and dubstep that proves very listenable indeed. Immersing yourself in the largely haunting music it feels like you're being taken on a fly-on-the-wall journey through a gritty London underworld of drugs, gangs and crime, with each track representing a different scene on this night time adventure. You're witness to a range of sights, like a moment's ecstasy on Persian, an argument between friends on Nightcrawler (Devils Mix) and a surreal street scene with twerking girls on Signal. A brilliant album, poignant and memorable.
