Here's another mysterious male producer using a female name, but this time it doesn't appear to be a cynical marketing ploy. Serena Butler, who may, or may not, be Italian newcomer Federico Cataldo, feels that he's a woman trapped inside a man's body. Quoting from a text on Xenofeminisim, she says:

Gender boundaries are like music boundaries. T E C H N O A M B I E N T D U B N O I S E H O U S E S P A C E O C E A N S M A L E F E M A L E. Interconnections, contaminations, not just mere empty labels.

Believe in biohacking, believe in your deepest emotions. Mix them without fear.

It's time to merge.

Heavy subject matter for sure, and worth considering while listening to You Have Penetrated Me, the deeply melodic Techno track that opens Butler's debut EP Gynoids Dryads Swim Alone.

Apart from the slightly annoying vocal samples on Oto, this is a very promising introduction to a new experimental Techno artist. Out tomorrow on Marco Shuttle's label Eerie Records.
