Pink Shabab - Ema By The Sea

Pink Shabab is British songwriter Joseph Carvell, a bass guitar player in various outfits (like Marker Starling, Baby Dee and Moondog tribute band I’m This I’m That among others) who has just released his debut album Ema By The Sea. You can hear he's a bassist because every track is built on a robust and addictive bassline. Effortlessly bridging a range of styles from Disco to New Wave to Electronic, the vibe is primarily left field Pop.

Carvell's pleasant speaking style of singing lends his sound a certain anecdotal sensibility, with songs like "Last of the Boys" and "Cry Every Night" more like secret diary readings. Bolstering this heartbroken angle Carvel uses sweet synths and a cheap drum machine to paint his lyrical scenes in neon eighties paint, meandering effortlessly across the nine catchy compositions, danceable and intimate. This is a fine showcase of an inventive songwriter breaking through.
