Intricate, brooding, emotional and cathartic: the core components of Where The World Ends, the third album from Italian producer Indian Wells, aka Pietro Iannuzzi.

Pigeon-hole reference: Electronica, in the vein of Four Tet.

Iannuzzi makes tuneful instrumentals but, magically, his use of vocal snippets transforms his productions into something closer to Pop. Exemplifying this is Cascades, with its warm bass combined with a tinkling synthesiser and sexy exhalation. Elsewhere piano, catchy loops and subtle samples enhance the depth and complexity of the music, at once substantial yet spacious and lean. Standout moment is The Alps which brings to mind The Field (think From Here We Go Sublime era) in the use of its backwards sample and driving beat. Sure, Iannuzzi wears his influences on his sleeve but who cares when it's this lovely?
