FAR - Flash Point

Ambient Techno of the highest order

Electric Deluxe have been on fine form so far this year with some very good releases from Arad, DJ Red, Dax J and Clouds. Next up we have a mysterious new artist who goes by the name FAR, with an exquisite nine-track album of the most glorious Ambient Techno, called Flash Point. It follows Inevitable Collapse, his debut EP from last year (also on Electric Deluxe).

Packed with melancholy and tension, this is the type of experimental music I was trying to describe in my review of the OAKE single: a hybrid of Techno-informed styles that harmonise perfectly. Hints of melody (Landslide and Toba) sit next to throbbing feedback (Open Door) and Industrial vibes (Numbers). The glitchy ambience on Compass evoking a ghostly atmosphere. Central track (and my particular favourite) the colossal, nine minute State To State comes across as The Caretaker on organ duties, while Apart nods politely to Boards of Canada.

Laser cut artwork

Released this Friday, 28th October, it's the fourth in the limited (LMTD) series featuring slick, laser cut outer sleeve artwork designed by Jan Willem van der Baan. Previous editions include: DJ Red’s Underwater EP, Rise Above by JK Flesh and Arad’s debut long player Particles and Waves. Flash Point will only be available for physical purchase via the Electric Deluxe shop.
