CYRK - Memorial EP

Review

Memorial EP by CYRK

Immaculate EP of well produced Electro

Belgian duo Sammy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel go by the name CYRK and they make a fine form of atmospheric Electro. And when I say 'fine' I mean this new EP has got classic written all over it. Memorial is their second EP this year, following the January release of Superior Things on Vakant, and sees them return to Rawax after their Bossanova Rock EP last year.

Memorial is four tracks of refined, elegant and well-produced Electro. The title track opens with ominous, extended synth chords that promise grave scenes before a welcome flush of Acid releases the tension build-up. The resulting rush of endorphins flows into the soothing Detroit Techno synths of Monuments, eight minutes of dark but delicious downtempo vibes. Third track Technique is rigourous Electro with a weird but memorable sample, like a compressed cough, which eventually transforms into some pleasant head-nodding Acid. Closing statement Integrate is more of the same: throbbing, funky Electro with some emotive chords thrown in for a rousing finish. Great sequencing forces repeat listens.
