Danish producer Anders Trentemøller has turned in a rugged rework of a track by compatriot's Maria Jagd and Ida Duelund, aka Lueenas. He's taken the sombre closing track from the duo's self-titled album (released in 2022) and given it a major overhaul. Gone are the quivering strings and plucked bass, replaced by a wall of rhythms and hoover bass. The vocal by Emma Acs remains a key element though.
Organised by The Mission main man Wayne Hussey, the purpose of TOS2020 is to raise money for Covid-related charities worldwide:
When Covid-19 hit I started receiving messages asking ‘why don’t you re-issue Tower Of Strength for the front line workers?’ The song had apparently been adopted as an anthem by some NHS workers, and it got me thinking that I would like to contribute something to the greater cause at this unprecedented time and the only thing I could really contribute is music. So in conjunction with my good friend Michael Ciravolo, I came up with the idea of recording a new version of Tower Of Strength for charity by enlisting the help of musician friends and acquaintances.
Some of the friends and acquaintances include Andy Rourke, Billy Duffy, Gary Numan, Martin Gore and Midge Ure. A fine idea! Go and support it and help front line NHS workers.
