Legowelt - Crystal Cult 2080

Review

Crystal Cult 2080 by Legowelt

Danny Wolfers returns with a new album of the same material

Crystal Cult 2080, the latest long player from Danny Wolfers, aka Legowelt, continues where he left off with The Paranormal Soul, which is a good thing as his sound hasn't changed much in the intervening 18 months (if it ain't broke and all that). We've still got quality house tracks packed with simple rhythms and catchy melodies, but where this album falls short of it's predecessor is in the form of standout tracks like Elements of Houz Music and A Cold Winters Day. Opening track Experiential Awakening comes close, setting things off nicely with shimmering synths and a delicious bassline, while the equally catchy bassline on Psychotic Endurance is also worth highlighting. It's a decent head-nodding experience as a whole but just falls short of expectations.
